“Detty December” Is Not For the Faint Of Heart

“Detty December” Is Not For the Faint Of Heart

It’s December 1st, Holiday season activated.  But let me be honest with you… Every time December rolls in, the world flips into “festive mode”—lights everywhere, parties every weekend, “Detty December” in full swing back home, and in the U.S.? Everything is supercharged. But here’s the behind the scenes no one tell you about:

December used to sneak up on me with a quiet kind of pressure.

Here’s why 👇🏾

My wife’s birthday is in December. Christmas is in December. And they’re 5 days apart.

And if you know my wife, you know both occasions are equally important. No shortcuts. No “combined celebration.” No “your gift is on the way.” Two separate moments. Two separate budgets. Two separate levels of joy I need to deliver. 😅

Trust me, it’s a special moment for a lot of reasons. Add in:

  • Our kids
  • All the nieces and nephews
  • The “Santa list”
  • And general adulting

…and suddenly, what’s supposed to be a joyful month feels like planning a small wedding every year.

Every year, I have this conversation with my friends, thinking: “Bro… people lose all financial reasoning this month. Everything goes out the window.” Not because they’re reckless… But because December feels magical. And when you’re in that mood, the swipe feels lighter. The spending feels justified. The budget? Forgotten.

But here’s the lesson December taught me:

Joy shouldn’t be the reason you go broke; it should be the reason you plan earlier. When I stopped treating December like a surprise, everything changed. Instead of panicking at the end of the year, I started preparing during the year.

I realized I had 11 whole months to plan ahead… 11 months to spread the cost… 11 months to protect my stress level and my bank account. Once I did that, December stopped overwhelming me; and started feeling magical again.

Give me a call and let’s create a plan to help you achieve your financial goals this new year.

Quick tip to carry with you this season:

Before you get caught in the excitement, ask yourself: “Will January-me be proud of today-me?”

If the answer is no…don’t kill the joy, just slow down. Your joy doesn’t need debt to shine. Here’s to a December filled with love, laughter, celebrations, and smart decisions.

You deserve a festive season and financial peace.

Happy December,

Cecil
